30 April 2016

The rider from the Team Lampre-Merida conquests another stage victory

With three stage wins on its tally the Tour of Turkey is a solid success for il team Lampre-Merida. At the end of the seventh stage Sacha Modolo made good use of the work of his team mates to celebrate his second stage win within a couple of days.

The Team Lampre-Merida may be out of contention for the overall win at this year’s Tour of Turkey, but the race has been a good hunting ground again: Przemyslaw Niemiec got to celebrate a solo win at the initial stage in Istanbul, and Sacha Modolo won the bunch sprint in Alanya at the end of the fourth stage.

The race’s penultimate stage led from Fethiye to Marmaris, and despite being pretty short at 128.6 kilometers the course featured a couple of climbs. At first a five-man lead group took charge at the head of the race but it got reeled in with 13.5 kilometers to go. A couple of teams tried to break the peloton on the last climb and to avoid a bunch sprint, setting a fast pace. Greg Henderson was the last attacker to be caught with less than two kilometers to go. The following finale through the sometimes narrow streets of Marmaris Sacha Modolo could count on his teammates which kept him in the first positions of the peloton, and on the finishing straight Roberto Ferrari rode a perfect lead-out. From there, Sacha Modolo nicely finished off the work and, atop on his Merida bike equipped with Fulcrum Speed 40T wheels,  sprinted to his second stage win in this year’s Tour of Turkey.
