07 Juni 2016

The rider from the team Lampre-Merida conquest a victory after the injury.

At the penultimate stage of the Tour of Japan Yukiya Arashiro rode to the stage win after an attack on the final kilometer. This win signaled the comeback of team Lampre-Merida’s Japanese rider after a lengthy break due to a serious injury. For the team this was the eighth win of the season.

After having ridden for two different French teams throughout the last seven seasons, Japan’s Yukiya Arashiro got signed by Team Lampre-Merida for the season 2016. At the Asian road racing championships held at the end of January he was only beaten by Hong Kong’s King Lok Cheung. But by winning a silver medal Arashiro’s debut for his new team was a success.

Things looked awfully worse a mere three weeks later: Yukiya Arashiro went down in a crash only five kilometers into the final stage of the Tour of Qatar. This crash had drastic consequences for the Japanese athlete who broke his left femur, a serious injury that sidelined him for quite a while. Arashiro bounced back and patiently rebuilt his form as soon as his body would allow for that. This professional attitude was rewarded at his domestic Tour of Japan now. In the finale of the penultimate stage that was held on a tough circuit around the city of Izu Yukiya Arashiro, atop on his Merida bike equipped with Fulcrum Speed 40T wheels,  attacked with 600 meters to go from a select group of overall contenders. And he managed to defend a decisive lead all the way to the finish line.

For Yukiya Arashiro this win in a demanding stage was his first victory since becoming Japan’s national road champion in 2013.
