They are here at last! Fulcrum has presented its first Off-Road wheels range for the 2008 season. Red Metal 5 wheels are the entry level model in the range, but they incorporate innovations that no other product in the same price bracket can boast of.
Like all the other models in the Off-Road family, Red Metal 5 wheels have oversize aluminium axles with a 20 mm diameter front and rear. This solution guarantees greater rigidity for the front quadrilateral (fork - hub) and excellent power transmission to the rear wheel without any flexion of the braking discs. Smoothness is guaranteed by sealed bearings and the play adjustment possibility.
The spokes, 24 for each wheel, are made of stainless steel with a variable section, hooked head and aerodynamic profile. They are fitted in the now famous Two to One arrangement with doubling on one side of the wheel only. Fulcrum decided on doubling on the disc side of the front wheel to guarantee perfect grip even with the highest braking torque, and doubling on the freewheel body side to ensure the best power transmission even with the toughest rhythm changes.
The rim, with traditional drilling, has a 19 mm profile and is provided with rim tape for fitting the tube and tyre. The Shimano or SRAM-compatible freewheel body is mounted on two sealed bearings and has an additional external seal to protect it from water and dust. The hub is supplied with a standard ISO 6-screw brake coupling, or with the special AFS (Axial Fixing System) which guarantees compatibility with the Shimano Center Lock system.
The low 1,805 g weight (without releases), attractive and competitive look that distinguish the entire Fulcrum Off-Road range make these Red Metal 5 wheels the ideal companions for every ride even on the most demanding off-road tracks.
